Birdie! :)

This is Zazu the Toucan. He is soooo cool. And in all honesty, if I had a toucan, I'd call him Zazu too. :)

Posters :)

I'm getting ready for my Rhythm and Play event by putting up posters in local businesses! :)

Sweet! :)

I went to a candy store and got really excited! :) There's such variety! And there was even a good selection of international goodies! :)

I even managed to scavenge a few boxes for my Pop-Up that's gonna be happening in a few weeks. Yay! :)

Children's Arcade

I went for a quick visit to Chuck E Cheese's. For those who know the UK, it's like Blackpool but dumbed down for children and with a huge climbing frame inside. And a salad bar. It looked really good fun but I thought it would be a bad idea to join in and take over the kid funness. Maybe there's a potential for me to work with these lovely people.... :)

Wanderings

More Root Beer Action

This is Birch Beer and it's very similar to Root Beer (ie a non-alcoholic beverage but named a beer to make you feel grown up when you're swigging it in the park), but it's very yummy and it was a good substitute for me today when I had no root beer available to me. Yay for Birch Beer! :)

Flags!

Americans like to decorate their house. Aside from flying the American flag, they have all sorts of crazy ones. Here's one of my favourites :)

Guess what?

I thought I'd save you from another picture of whiteness but I would like to inform you all that once again we have snow....! :)

Pirated Booty! :)

So we had a packet of completely flavourless Pirate Booty, and in a fit of poorness I decided to inform Pirate brands of their mini mistake. And guess what happened?!

FREE BOOTY! :)

I'm so proud of myself. So much free food! :) And a sticker! :) Yay! :)

Rediscovering the Sky

Just been looking through some of my flight photos and I thought I'd show you some of them :)

When it's a clear day (or night I suppose) you can get some fab photos from a plane :)

Does it work?

Testing, testing, 1, 2, 3... does mobile phone posting work, 1, 2, 3?

Hoops made of willow

My very own wreath :)

I had fun in Boston! Admittedly I didn't see much of it, but of what I have seen it was really nice. And it was warm here! :) Yay for Boston! :)

Fro-gurt?

Hands down most exciting frozen yogurt place I have ever been to. :)

Food thoughts

I have had some pretty awesome foods in the last few weeks, but this week has been interesting too. I had Tibetan food for the first time and had a huge selection of cheeses yesterday which I have had very little of since arriving in the States. Cheese is too expensive so I just haven't bothered.

Anyway, here are a couple of interesting food/drink sights. :)

A brand of wine that is actually called House Wine. Surprisingly more expensive than other more poshly named wines and has a cork seal.

This was an awesomely yummy, thick, rich hot chocolate. It was wonderfully smooth and delightfully homely. Yummy in my tummy! :)

Boston!

I'm in Boston for a week long escape to play. There will be meetings, sessions, discussions, conference calls, snow, coffee and play! Awesomeness! :) And guess what's going on today....? :)

It made me laugh. It's so silly. More interesting silly pics from Boston coming your way :)

Mushroom House!

I couldn't get a good picture without trespassing, but doesn't it look awesome?! It's like the Jetsons! I want a house like this please! :)

Saturday

I didn't feel like doing much today, so I've taken a day off. It's nice to sit in your sleepie clothes for a day. Hope you're all having a nice Saturday! :)

Meetings Meetings...

I didn't have time to post yesterday evening, so here's the pic! :) I went to Strong's Museum of Play yesterday, or as it's now known, The Strong.

I met some new people, talked about future plans and discussed collaborative projects. It was an interesting meeting, hopefully with more to come. Seriousness aside, I am still in awe of this museum. I love the playfulness of it. And I hope to work with them one day. :)

Dilemma o.O

I have a big meeting tomorrow and I'm a little scared. It's one of those, I-have-no-idea-what's-happening-but-it's-okay moments. I honestly don't know what the outcome of this meeting could be, or more to the point, I don't really know the details of the purpose. I just know that meeting these people will be a good idea.

A more pressing and fun issue though - what does one wear to a serious play meeting? Can you have serious play meetings? Is it a suit and tie with a bobble hat situation? Or just smart casual? Surely if it's all about play, I should just go in my scruffs and call it a day! But I don't think it'll go down that well. Hmm... I'll just wear whatever I find in my suitcase I guess. And just to maintain the balance, I'll bring a small toy in my bag. They never need to know...! :)

Lots of Links

I have been doing lots of bits and pieces recently, I feel that there are some programs I really should be very grateful for. Let's link it up! :)

Gimp is a fantastic program for altering images and photos. I use it all the time for my photos, usually for cropping, but sometimes for image manipulation like healing images and removing blobs. It's also good for resizing and re-saving as different file formats.
This has been a lifesaver for doing work on the go. The wonderful thing about it is that you can just share your work with your Google contacts without having to send back and forth. And you can have lots of people working on the same document at the same time! It's brilliant!

This is a no-nonsense PDF maker that basically just adds itself as a printer option when you go to press print. It then just saves as a PDF file. Sorted! :)

I know it's another Google product, but Picasa is a fantastic picture viewing program! It has a nice interface and allows you to basic image manipulation as well as help you organise all your photos. The think I like the most is the slideshow mode of the program which makes your photos look dead pro! Easy to use and just a very small download :)

Happy Food!

You can't really go wrong with a drink called Little Hug can you? Additives and colourings aside, it really has got some good intentions. I wonder just how much it'll make me run around?

Plunge!

A big congratulations to my bro today for taking the dip at last and getting baptised :)

In celebration of this, here's my completely non-related but slightly funny photo of the day:

I'm not racist, it's just so very different from things in the UK :)

Pop-Ups Everywhere!

We had a big team meeting and it turns out we're having Pop-Ups in lots of places!

New Haven had our first mini Pop-Up yesterday, and we're having one in Boston on 17th March. I'll be doing one on 16th April at Rhythm Connect, and then there's going to be a mini one in Brooklyn in mid-April. Pop-Up Adventure Play will be appearing at the TASP conference at Strong's Museum of Play at the end of April, and there's a Festival in NYC featuring a Pop-Up Site. Then it brings me to the Pop-Up Residency this Summer where I will be invading a small island near Manhattan and running Pop-Ups every Saturday for 18 weeks! How awesome is that? Pop-Ups are taking over the world, in a very good way! I think I should start making a map! :) Hoorah for Pop-Up Adventure Play! :)

Lots!

There are lots of things happening, with meetings and events, and play and fun! I'm quite exhausted today from being excited about it all, so I'm just going to leave you with this short post. It's all very exciting though. I'm excited! :D Yay! :)

Rhythm and Play Event! :)

I have a gig! I'm going to be working with Drummer Ed from Rhythm Connect to host a special Rhythm and Play Event on April 16th! :D I'm so excited! :) We're going to have a 1.5 hour play session and incorporate instruments into it! It's gonna be awesome! :)

We've already started publicising the event but I'm going to go around promoting the event, make more new friends, get some junk together and see where it gets me! :) Yay! Pop-Up Adventure Play in Fairport, NY! :)

Chinese Food Places

I have been making some observations:
a) Chinese restaurants and take aways etc are all named in the same silly way all over the world.
b) They don't always make sense (read: they don't ever make sense)
Hahaha... makes me giggle. :)

Play Conference #2

Yay, I've been accepted at my second play conference in 3 months, so this time I will be representing me as a Playranger and telling the world about mobile playwork in the UK to a US audience. Wooo! Just like last year but a lot shorter. It's gonna be interesting as well because I've only just comes to terms with my new role as part of Pop-Up Adventure Play and I have to take a step back and think about my roots. It's okay though.  I love my role in Pop-Ups and I love being a playranger as well. So it's a good place to be. :)
